Sacred Harp Sherbrooke
We’re a small, friendly and open group of shape-note singers. We gather regularly, in and around so-called Sherbrooke, to sing Sacred Harp — a loud, raw, and joyful four-part a cappella tradition of American shape-note tunes, with deep roots in community and embodied harmony. No auditions, no performances, no perfectionism. Just our voices joining in sweet accord, around the hollow square, for pleasure.

What’s Sacred Harp singing?
Sacred Harp is a social tradition of community singing from shape-note tunebooks, known for its raw harmonies, inclusive and participatory spirit, and a deep sense of community. Everyone is welcome — you don’t need to be religious or have any musical background. While many of the songs draw on themes of God, death, heaven and eternity, Sacred Harp singing is non-denominational and personal beliefs are not discussed.

The music comes from a uniquely North American tradition of singing schools, which emerged to teach everyday people how to read music using shaped noteheads. This approach made music more accessible, especially in rural communities, and continues to welcome voices of all kinds today.
Next singing opportunities
We currently sing most thursday evenings, from 6:30 til 8:30 pm, in Centennial Park in Lennoxville, under the little shelter near the football fields.
We also offer singing schools on the last thursday of every month.
